The project renovates an existing civic pavilion in Kayu Agung, traditionally used for governmental activities and as a social space connecting the local government with the community.

Terracotta is emphasized as a representation of the local character. The color is inspired by the work of local clay artisans in Kayu Agung and relates to the reddish-brown tones commonly found in traditional Songket textiles.

Woven elements are introduced as another representation of local culture, drawing inspiration from traditional “purun” weaving. The renovation prioritizes the reuse of existing materials and structures wherever possible. The existing beige marble flooring is retained and reused, while the existing ceiling structure is preserved.

By retaining the existing ceiling framework, the overall form of the interior continues to follow the original architectural structure, with changes primarily applied to the ceiling’s finishing materials.
